IMPORTANT THINGS TO LOOK FOR

Important things to look for
Here are some small but important things to look for in the early 1941-1983 bikes. If the friction plate on the clutch hub (hub liner) behind the basket is worn or damaged, replace it. Also, in cases of chatter problems, check the two or three springs behind the last friction plate next to the clutch hub. Make sure they are not collapsed or missing. Spring adjustment setting for these years is 1-1/32" from the pressure plate to the spring retainer plate. Make sure the pins on the hub are straight and not excessively worn. Smooth out any grooves on the pins. If pins are off slightly and the friction plates are too tight, open up the holes on the friction plates with a letter "W" drill.
